You can easily and quickly suspend your vehicle through our form. Fill in all the required details and we will process your request with the RDW within 1 business day. You will receive a definitive confirmation from us by email once your vehicle has been suspended. When you suspend your vehicle, you temporarily do not have to meet certain obligations such as motor vehicle tax, insurance and MOT requirements. A suspension is therefore cost-saving when your vehicle is not used for a longer period. You can suspend your vehicle for 1, 2 or 3 years via our website. During the suspension period: • You do not have to pay motor vehicle tax. • There is no MOT obligation. • You do not need third-party liability insurance. How long does a suspension last?

You can suspend your vehicle for a period of 1, 2 or 3 years. The suspension ends automatically after the chosen term. Do you want to end the suspension earlier? That is possible at any time, but you will not receive a refund for the remaining period. For example, if you want to suspend your vehicle for 5 months, you choose a suspension period of 1 year and pay the associated costs. After 5 months, you can stop the suspension yourself through our website. A refund for the unused months is unfortunately not possible.

What are the rates for suspending a vehicle?

A fixed fee of €45 in administration costs, inclusive of VAT, applies to our service. When requesting or extending a suspension, you also pay the RDW rate; this depends on the type of vehicle, the age of the vehicle and the chosen suspension period. The RDW does not charge any fees for ending a suspension, so you only pay our administration costs. You will always see the total price before completing your request. Does my vehicle need to undergo an MOT inspection during the suspension?

During the suspension, an MOT inspection is not required. However, before the vehicle is put back into use, it must meet the MOT requirements.

Can I sell my vehicle while it is suspended?

Yes, you can sell your vehicle during a suspension. The new owner must cancel or renew the suspension.

From when can I extend my current suspension?

Are you extending the suspension from 6 weeks before the end date of the suspension? Then you keep the suspension date plus the extension you chose (1, 2 or 3 years). Are you extending the suspension earlier than 6 weeks before the end date? Then you will receive a new suspension date that starts on the day you arrange the extension, plus the suspension period you chose (1, 2 or 3 years). After the suspension ends: • The insurance obligation may apply again. • Motor vehicle tax may be due. • An MOT may become mandatory. With an extension, your vehicle remains suspended and you avoid unexpected costs or fines.

Can I cancel my insurance?

Yes, if your vehicle is suspended, you can cancel its insurance. During the suspension period, you do not need to insure the vehicle, pay motor vehicle tax, and the MOT inspection is also not mandatory. It is important to contact your insurer immediately after starting the suspension to cancel the insurance. Do not forget that you are not allowed on public roads with a suspended vehicle. When the suspension period expires or when you end the suspension, you must insure the vehicle again and comply with the other obligations.

What is the difference between suspending and extending?

When extending, the existing suspension continues. This prevents the suspension from ending and the normal obligations from automatically returning. After the suspension ends: • The insurance obligation may apply again. • Motor vehicle tax may be due. • An MOT may become mandatory. With an extension, your vehicle remains suspended and you avoid unexpected costs or fines.

What is a de-suspension?

De-suspending means that the suspension is ended and the vehicle fully participates again in the normal vehicle register. After lifting the suspension, do not forget to check whether you: • Have valid insurance. • Have a valid MOT for the vehicle. • Meet any tax obligations.

Can I cancel or revoke my request?

As a consumer, you have a statutory cooling-off period of 14 days. As long as we have not yet completed your request with the RDW, you can revoke your purchase via our online withdrawal form. After revocation, you will receive the full purchase amount back within 14 days at the latest, via the same payment method you used to pay. Please note: the right of withdrawal expires as soon as we have completed your request with the RDW – with your explicit consent – within the cooling-off period. Have you already received our definitive confirmation? Then revocation is no longer possible. The statutory right of withdrawal only applies to consumers. Did you place the request as a business or on behalf of a business? Then the right of withdrawal does not apply.
